Board Election and Annual Meeting

As you attend classes over the next six weeks, you will be seeing nine OLLI members sporting special nametags designating them as “Candidates for the Board of Directors.” These are the individuals running in the election to fill six open positions on the OLLI Board of Directors this May. Photographs and bios of each of these individuals are presented on the Display Boards at Tallwood and Lake Anne.

Ballots for this year’s election have been mailed to all OLLI members in good standing along with the official notice of this year’s annual meeting. Included with the mailing are the biographies of the candidates for election or re-election. Also enclosed is an addressed return envelope marked BALLOT ENCLOSED.

The annual meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at 1:30 pm at Tallwood. During the meeting, each of the Board candidates will be introduced and asked to make a brief presentation. They will also be available to answer your questions.

Voting officially commences at the annual meeting on Wednesday, May 3, 2006 and will end two weeks later at 11:30 am on Wednesday, May 17, 2006.

Please keep the ballot until you have heard the candidates speak and answer your questions at the Annual Meeting. Cast your vote by marking your choices – not more than six. Then put the ballot in the return envelope, seal it, and either mail it or deliver it to one of the ballot boxes at Lake Anne or Tallwood.

Since the ballots and annual meeting notice are being mailed to ALL members in good standing, and ONLY members in good standing, any ballot received in the BALLOT ENCLOSED return envelope is automatically certified. Since you do not sign anything to register, nor sign the ballot or return envelope, your vote remains completely anonymous.

Please remember that marking more than six choices will invalidate your ballot. Similarly, more than one ballot per envelope, any ballot not in the furnished BALLOT ENCLOSED envelope or not received within the designated voting period will be invalid. Thus, the Nominating Committee is assured that, with the above exceptions, all the ballots it receives are valid and has only to count and tally the votes. This makes the process quicker, easier and more accurate.

It is also important that your ballot be handled carefully since “No member having lost, damaged or destroyed his/her mailed ballot may receive a second ballot.

Please save this notice for reference as you prepare to mark your ballot. If you have a question, ask any Nominating Committee member:

Former County Board of Supervisors Chair to Speak

Tomorrow (Thursday, April 6, 2006), the Honorable
Katherine K. Hanley, former chair of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, will address the “Questions…and Answers” class at Tallwood at 11:30 am. Ms. Hanley currently serves as chair of the Tysons Corner Transportation/Urban Design Study and will speak and answer questions about Northern Virginia transportation. There is still room in this class and OLLI members are welcome to stop in.
